SnapDock Classic (2.x)
SnapDock Classic is the original, stable, distraction‑free Markdown editor that shaped the identity of the SnapDock ecosystem.
It represents the 2.x era, where the focus was simplicity, predictability, and a writing‑first workflow.
Classic remains fully functional and reliable, and it continues to serve users who prefer its minimal, no‑nonsense approach.
Core Principles
SnapDock Classic was built as an alternative to complex, plugin‑heavy editors and cloud‑locked writing tools.
Its design is based on three simple principles:
- Local‑first: Your files stay on your machine until you choose to save or export them.
- Predictable UI: No shifting panels, floating overlays, or hidden interface elements.
- No feature gating: All core writing tools are available without restrictions or accounts.
These principles still influence SnapDock 3 and SnapDock Online today.

Why Classic Reached Its Final Form
The 2.x architecture is stable and reliable, but it has natural limits:
- no multi‑threaded background processes
- limited UI flexibility
- limited performance scaling
- limited cross‑platform consistency
Rather than extending an aging foundation, SnapDock 3 was built as a clean, modern rewrite that preserves Classic’s philosophy while enabling new capabilities.
Classic remains available as a trusted, minimal writing environment.
