Alpha Notes

SnapBoard is currently in Alpha, meaning the core experience is functional but several systems are still stabilizing.
This page outlines the current limitations, known issues, and the roadmap toward the upcoming Beta release.

Current Limitations

These limitations are expected during the Alpha cycle and will be addressed as SnapBoard matures.

Storage Model Still Evolving

Alpha used a single .json file for all boards, which caused markdown escaping issues and bloated storage. Beta uses .db files, but some legacy behaviors still exist during migration.

Attachment Handling

Attachments use absolute file paths. This limits portability and may break if files are moved or renamed.

No Built‑In Backup System

SnapBoard auto‑saves changes but cannot yet create physical backups. Exporting your board as .sb is currently the safest way to prevent data loss.

No Workspace Isolation

All boards share the same environment. Isolation and multi‑board containers are planned for Beta.

SDWS Limited to Single Column

SnapBoard can export a single column to SnapDock using .sdws, but full‑board export is not yet supported.

Known Issues

These issues are actively tracked and will be resolved during the Beta cycle.

Drag‑and‑Drop Edge Cases

Rapid dragging or moving multiple cards quickly may cause temporary visual desync. Data remains safe, but UI updates may lag momentarily.

Markdown Sanitization Incomplete

Some markdown edge cases may render inconsistently. Sanitization improvements are planned for Beta.

Column Overflow Behavior

Boards with 20+ columns may require horizontal scrolling depending on screen size. A compact layout mode is planned.

Missing Attachment Warnings

If an attachment is moved or deleted on disk, SnapBoard does not yet warn the user. A validation system is planned.

Roadmap

SnapBoard is actively moving toward its Beta milestone.
The following features are planned or in development:

Improved Storage Model

Safer attachment handling, schema migrations, and multi‑board containers.

Backup & Restore Tools

Automated backups, scheduled exports, and portable board bundles.

Full‑Board SDWS Export

Export entire boards into SnapDock, not just single columns.

UI Polish & Layout Modes

Compact mode, improved animations, and better large‑board handling.

Enhanced Card Editor

Better markdown rendering, safer sanitization, and improved preview.
